WHAT WE DO
We offer comprehensive solutions for plant construction and maintenance – in every phase of their life cycle. These solutions are offered across oil & gas, chemical and power sectors.
We have a proven track record in the delivery and output of the following services;

Engineering
With experienced engineering companies as our partners, we are also able to provide the planning of small-scale conversions and new construction.
We collaborate with partners in finding innovative engineering technical skills for designing, planning, installing, and maintaining plant systems, facilities, and equipment. Partner engineers spread their scope as per the service level agreement, and may perform maintenance and repairs or be responsible for managerial duties.
We have been working in plant engineering, pipeline construction/maintenance and boiler construction/maintenance on the national and international market for more than 45 years.
Our scope of services covers laying and welding of pipes in the areas of High Pressure, Medium Pressure, and Low Pressure Systems.

Welding Services
We have developed WPQRs’ for a wide variety of materials in the industry so that we can produce weld repairs according to the specific design code.
All welding related activities on HP systems are done according to the specific WPS derived from the WPQR for the specified material. All weld joints are subjected to NDT in the form of X-Ray or UT inspection, they are then cleared and signed off by the relevant AIA.
We also provide welding and weld related repairs on other areas of plants, which includes but is not limited to, weld build ups, ducting repairs, milling plant repairs and general manufacturing for any requirement that the client might have.
Our welding services are backed up by a qualified Welding Engineer and Welding Technologist to ensure the highest possible standard for our welders and welder qualifications.
Our operatives are trained and certified to a high standard in the use of any tooling or equipment to current international regulations and legislation. Our large number of highly qualified and competent employees (including mirror welders) allows us to meet labour-intensive requirements and perform unscheduled tasks quickly and to the complete satisfaction of our customers at short notice. Based on the exceptional expertise of our employees, we are able to bring even critical and technically demanding projects to a successful completion on schedule.
Assembly and Welding Work
We have successfully provided stabile connections in pipe construction for many years and have proven ourselves to demanding customers in power plant / boiler construction. With their experience gained from well over 500,000 welding seams on headers, our mirror welders are invariably able to weld high-quality materials with an error rate of < 1%.
WE ASSEMBLE AND WELD:

Components
Prefabrication
Prefabrication is the practice of assembling components in a factory or other manufacturing site, and transporting complete assemblies or sub-assemblies to the construction site where the structure is to be located. This requires engineering accuracy, safety in handling the components and efficient logistics where the manufacturing is off site.
Our teams have expertise in the prefabrication of components, such as pipe spools and tanks. The existing crane capacity (up to 20 tons) also allows us to handle larger components.

Piping Services
HP Piping
Our teams at IDS-AFRICA conduct HP, IP and LP related repairs supported by a full data pack which is approved by the client AIA. We additionally provide advice on specific design and repair processes and procedures to ensure that work is executed at the highest possible standard, according to the design code.
Our operatives are trained and certified to a high standard in the use of any tooling or equipment to current international regulations and legislation.

Maintenance Services
IDS-AFRICA has a full suite of services to address client requirements for complex planned and unplanned maintenance on site across South Africa, and the sub-continent.
Boiler Island conditions assessment and maintenance
We have internal expertise that ensures the customer boiler services remain in prime, functional conditions throughout the commissioning period. This is achieved by our highly trained managers with requisite technical insight and new intelligence gathering technology. Our deployed teams perform significant condition analysis before recommending maintenance programmed to sustain operations as close to OEM standards.
Turbine plant
We have capacity that provides a range of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services to power plant owners. Our teams have almost five decades in hands-on turbine overhauling, rotor and diaphragm repairs, and affiliated equipment such as valves, pump systems and generator inspections services that exceed customer expectations. The skills diversity that we have built over the years allows us capacity to perform seamless installations, commissioning, in-loco infrastructure inspections and repairs.
WE ASSEMBLE AND WELD:
Installation & start-up
Failure analysis
Turbine overhauls
Total power plant support
Generator inspection
Field
consulting
Technical advisory
We additionally have off-site repairs where equipment can be assessed and repaired as close to OEM conditions as possible.

Mills, Coal and Ash Handling Equipment
As power plant engineering experts, we have the appropriate skills and equipment in managing and storage of ash residue. This we implement with the utmost care and health and safety assessment that allow us to implement collection, conveying, interim storage and load out of various types of ash residue left over from solid combustion processes. The teams have handled bottom ash, bed ash, and fly ash. With vast experience accumulated over the years in global geographies, we push the bar higher to deliver high standards of the core elements of the value chain.

Project Management & Maintenance
Unplanned Maintenance
Unplanned maintenance is unfortunately unavoidable; and is generally referred to as: reactive maintenance, corrective maintenance, breakdown maintenance, or run-to-failure maintenance; which means our teams create pockets of highly skilled and agile technicians that service customer requirements within short notice. In the nature of engineering we perform, unplanned interruptions are as common as the expectations by customers to have plants running seamlessly. We meet the client at this point, and integrate our interventions in the plant with great care and meticulous planning and management.
Planned Maintenance
IDS-AFRICA collaborates with clients to schedule maintenance activity that is regarded as a scheduled, documented, budgeted and essential. Wear and tear are inevitable in plant infrastructure, and we deploy teams to implement preventive maintenance, thereby pre-empting failure at assets before it happens.
Our interventions reduce expected plant bottlenecks that could result in downtime; and assist the customer to develop a predictable resource allocation strategy.
All installation or repair work of piping or tubing systems that convey liquid, gas, and occasionally solid materials is carried-out by our own experienced in-house fitting teams, ensuring that there is minimal impact to our clients in the event of rescheduling.
Our operatives are trained and certified to a high standard in the use of any tooling or equipment to current international regulations and legislation.

Technical skills sourcing and training
Professionally trained welders
IDS provides the highest quality of specialized welding across Sub-Saharan Africa
Our scope is not limited to the skilled work force only. We have a training facility in Boksburg where we train and certify new welders that are straight out of school. The Boksburg training facility will train even more welder’s get them certified and approved and give them real life experience.
Our welding personnel dominates: WIG, WIG / E – combined, MAG, E, mirror, and orbital welding.
Certification guarantees quality workmanship
Of course our professionals have the necessary qualifications and certificates.
To date, the Boksburg training academy has trained and certified 334 welders, allowing us the depth to meet labour-intensive requirements and perform unscheduled tasks even more quickly to customer satisfaction, and at short notice. Through our QM and QA department, we guarantee a high standard of welding work. Each employee is in possession of the orange SCC passport and operates according to these specifications.
